Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan marks Independence Day in Madrid

During his working visit to the Kingdom of Spain, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, took part in a reception in Madrid dedicated to Armenia’s Independence Day, organized by the Embassy of Armenia in Spain. The Speaker of the National Assembly delivered a welcoming address:
“Your Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great honor to join you today at this solemn reception dedicated to the National Day of the Republic of Armenia.
Our National Day is not only a celebration of Armenia’s declaration of independence, but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to the values we have embraced—freedom, resilience, peace, and democracy.
This year, our celebration carries a very important message. On August 8, 2025, in Washington, with the support of President Donald Trump, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Declaration that opens a new chapter in our history. It marks a significant milestone on the path toward establishing lasting peace in our region—a peace long awaited and well-deserved by our peoples.
We are delighted to celebrate this important day in Madrid—a city that symbolizes cultural diversity, dialogue, and friendship. The relations between Armenia and Spain, built on mutual respect and shared aspirations, continue to develop in political, economic, and cultural spheres. We highly value Spain’s role as a partner both within the European Union and beyond, and we look forward to further deepening our cooperation.
I would like to extend special thanks to the Armenian community in Spain, whose dedication and hard work have created a living bridge between our two peoples.
May this day serve as yet another occasion to further strengthen the ties between Armenia and Spain for the well-being, peace, and prosperity of our nations.
