Aliyev uses Armenian POWs and Baku trials as tools of anti-Armenian propaganda

Azerbaijan expert Tatevik Hayrapetyan writes:
“Armenian prisoners of war and the high-profile trial in Baku have become powerful tools in Aliyev’s hands for anti-Armenian propaganda and incitement of hatred. Even after the agreements reached in Washington, where the sides committed not to provoke hostility, Aliyev immediately resumed insulting Armenians upon his return, calling them ‘enemies’ and a ‘sick society.’ He continues to demand changes to Armenia’s Constitution, although this is an internal matter of the Republic of Armenia.
The Azerbaijani headlines about the judicial farce in Baku are shaping myths about alleged horrific crimes committed by Armenians against Azerbaijan, based on absurd testimonies. For example, in the case against Ruben Vardanyan, individuals testify about ‘crimes’ from the 1990s, even though Vardanyan had no connection to Artsakh during that period.
Azerbaijan shows no shame in such fabrications. The trial is taking place without the participation of international journalists or observers, despite official claims about ‘transparency.’ Aliyev is using the prisoners as leverage against Armenia.
An article published in Bakinskiy Rabochiy (The Baku Worker), a newspaper founded by the Presidential Administrative Department of Azerbaijan, even stated that ‘the prosecutor’s indictment is directed against Armenia.’”
