Armenia’s Ambassador to Russia rules out murder in Boris Avagyan’s death at Saint Petersburg consulate

Armenia’s Ambassador to Russia, Gurgen Arsenyan, has ruled out the possibility that businessman and former Artsakh official Boris Avagyan was murdered.
Earlier reports indicated that Avagyan had been found dead at the Armenian Consulate in Saint Petersburg. He had reportedly fled the Kronstadt court in Saint Petersburg the previous day. Initial information suggested that Avagyan had taken his own life.
“This is excluded. He cut his own carotid—he cut the ‘veins’—behind a closed door. Honestly, I am not in the mood to discuss anything further until the relevant authorities speak,” Arsenyan told Hraparak.
Regarding how Avagyan ended up inside the consulate building, Arsenyan explained that entry is open, and anyone can enter the consulate premises, for example, to receive consular services or for other matters. The consulate is not considered a restricted area.
The Armenian ambassador emphasized that Avagyan “came to the consulate on his own, freely and voluntarily.”
