Alen Simonyan: no intention to withhold 44-day war inquiry report, publication format under discussion

Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan insists that there is no intention to withhold the report of the parliamentary inquiry committee studying the circumstances of the 44-day war, and there are no legal grounds to include it in plenary sessions.
“The publications in the media claiming that there is some intention not to publish it are wrong. This is not about whether to publish or not, but about the format of publication. In any case, the report will be published—it cannot remain unpublished. The only question is in what format. Even if it were to be included in a plenary session, it would still be in a closed format,” Simonyan told reporters in parliament.
He noted that closed hearings are possible, and opposition MPs may have the opportunity to go to the classified section and familiarize themselves with the report. “Understand that it is impossible to publish a report containing information about our Armed Forces and broadcast it live,” he said.
Simonyan also pointed out that the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly clearly state this, and that Inquiry Committee Chairman Andranik Kocharyan misinterpreted the law: “Out of respect for him, I requested clarification on the interpretation of the Rules of Procedure and received three identical answers.”
He emphasized that there is no tension with Kocharyan, only a matter of differing interpretations.
