Armenian Opposition DOK party alerts Georgia on seizure of fake passports aimed at election fraud

Founder of the DOK party, Vardan Ghukasyan, has sent a letter to Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili and the Head of Georgia’s State Security Service, Mamuka Mdinaradze. The letter reads:
“On behalf of the radical opposition party of the Republic of Armenia, ‘Democracy, Law, Discipline’ (DOK), and personally myself, we express our deep gratitude to the Georgian authorities for recently seizing 190,000 fake Armenian passports and 29,000 fake Armenian ID cards at the Georgia–Turkey border.
According to our sources, the mentioned documents had been printed in the city of Izmir, Turkey, and were intended to be illegally smuggled into Armenia with the purpose of falsifying the results of the 2026 parliamentary elections in Armenia. We highly value the vigilance and prompt actions of your state institutions, aimed at ensuring stability in our region, transparency of electoral processes, and the preservation of democratic principles.
The DOK party declares its readiness to fully cooperate with the relevant bodies of Georgia in such matters and to support in every way the detection and prevention of illegal mechanisms. We are prepared to provide the necessary information and assistance so that such plans do not undermine our democratic processes and that all those responsible are held accountable—regardless of their affiliations or political positions.
P.S. It is noteworthy that these authorities are well aware of their vulnerable position and, in order to compensate for it, have cooperated with their Turkish counterparts to organize the production and distribution of fake passports. Their goal is to involve foreign citizens, including certain Indian nationals and others, in order to secure falsified results during the elections. In short, the aim is to ensure fictitious vote counts by exploiting the ballots of individuals who either have restricted residency status in Armenia or are physically absent. We are aware that the clients behind the fake passports may be institutionally affiliated circles from the current government, who, according to our assessment, are almost certain that they cannot lawfully outweigh the real majority.
This alarm is significant, therefore we kindly request that copies of this information also be forwarded to all interested European partners, including the EU observation missions, so that international relevant bodies treat this threat with utmost seriousness and undertake appropriate measures.
Once again, thank you for your efforts and swift response. We hope that our mutual understanding and cooperation will foster regional security and the protection of electoral governance mechanisms.”
