Turkish divers perform underwater namaz in Mugla’s Aegean coast village
An unusual event took place in the village of Sarıyarlar in Turkey’s Muğla province, located on the coast of the Aegean Sea. Divers from the Sakarya Serdivan underwater group submerged into the waters of the Aegean Sea and performed an underwater namaz (Islamic prayer). This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.
Namaz is a mandatory prayer in Islam. Muslims perform it five times a day as a way of worshiping Allah and attaining spiritual purification.
A video of the divers performing the prayer has widely circulated on social media. Members of the group stated that the purpose of their action was to demonstrate that it is possible to perform namaz under any circumstances.
According to them, there is no excuse for not performing the prayer—it should be done both in water and on land.
