Alen Simonyan rejects attempts to link Parakar tragedy to current government, condemns impunity

Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan stated that representatives of former authorities—who were involved in political assassinations, the March 1 and October 27 events, election fraud, and a criminal subculture—and their low-level aides are attempting, and will continue to attempt, to link the tragic Parakar incident to the current government.
According to the Republican Party of Armenia member, they do this so that “they don’t feel like the sole murderer, thief, or fraudster, so that when taking money from former thieves, they don’t feel so guilty and separate themselves.”
“But these attempts are in vain. In Armenia, no one is killed or even beaten for their political stance. Elections are not falsified, and where the government has lost, it occupies its opposition role. No one in Armenia goes unpunished, and every act of violence receives both political and legal evaluation.
Political assassinations, vendettas, and impunity belong to the past—with you included.
My deepest condolences to the relatives of the deceased,” Simonyan wrote.
